This unique piece in white gold portrays a Carcharodon carcharias, a Great White Shark, whose four to six meters in length make it one of the largest living fish and one of the ocean’s predominant macro-predators. To reproduce this formidable carnivore so realistically, the marquetry-maker cut out and assembled 161 tiny veneer parts and 25 even smaller inlays, together spanning a palette of 18 wood species of different colors, textures and veining. The animal was then integrated into the enameled background, having been prepared beforehand using transparent and opaque enamels in 16 colors as well as 7 colors of miniature painting on enamel for the fine detail work on the deep-sea fauna that accompany the Great White.
